Making Wales period proud is one of my priorities as Minister of Social Justice. This week, we launched our A Period Proud Wales plan which is all about promoting a cultural change around periods.

Nobody should be ashamed, embarrassed or disadvantaged because of their period. Our vision is to eradicate period poverty and end all stigma around periods.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day to acknowledge the importance of good mental health and the continuing work to protect and support the mental health of people around the world. Days such as this provide an opportunity to remind ourselves of the value of being more open and mindful of our own and others’ mental health and wellbeing.

High 5 for children’s rights! Ending physical punishment in Wales.

Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan, tells us what ending physical punishment means to her…

The rights of the child are at the heart of celebrations to mark World Children’s Day on 20 November. Wales will soon join over 60 countries around the world who have put children’s rights centre stage by outlawing the physical punishment of children. The law will change in Wales on 21 March 2022 with the removal of the archaic defence of reasonable punishment. It can’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned.
