Saying goodbye to our First Minister, Mark Drakeford  

After five years as First Minister of Wales, it’s time for us to say goodbye to Mark Drakeford.   

He has held many roles within the Welsh Government over the years, including as a Special Advisor to the former First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, as Health and Social Services Minister in 2013, as Finance and Local Government Minister in 2016, and finally, as First Minister in 2018.

Cycle to work all year ‘round!

Cycle September has come to an end, but cycling to work is not just a September or summer thing. At the Welsh Government we have a number of initiatives to encourage cycling to work, including the Cycle to Work scheme which helps staff pay for a bike through a salary sacrifice scheme.

One of our colleagues, Alex, is all too familiar with travelling to the office on two wheels and embraces this all year ‘round. While the pandemic led to more hybrid working at the Welsh Government, Alex has found ways around this by setting up his own “virtual commute”. He shares with us why he is so passionate about this and what he does to survive the inclement weather as we head into winter…

We Must Do More to Make Hate History

During #LGBTHistoryMonth, we reflect on how far we’ve come in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights and we celebrate the lives of the LGBTQ+ activists and allies that came before us.

We know that we cannot be complacent. Unfortunately, we’re in an age where it can feel like our rights are at risk of being rolled back. As LGBTQ+ people we all too often still face discrimination and harassment.

Our Top 6 Goals for a Period Proud Wales

Making Wales period proud is one of my priorities as Minister of Social Justice. This week, we launched our A Period Proud Wales plan which is all about promoting a cultural change around periods.

Nobody should be ashamed, embarrassed or disadvantaged because of their period. Our vision is to eradicate period poverty and end all stigma around periods.
